AHCS Graduate Students Association

Who We Are

The Art History and Communication Studies Graduate Students Association (AHCS GSA) is comprised ofÌýgraduate students and postdoctoral fellows currently registered in the Department of Art History and Communication Studies.

The mission and goals of the AHCS GSA are to improve student and faculty interactions; to provide graduate students with a forum for discussion, including voicing concerns and addressing department issues; to facilitate graduate student involvement in 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ associations, committees, and unions; and to help create a presence within the Department of Art History and Communication Studies that will help shape and mold the department to the benefit of students.

What We Do

The primary objectives of the AHCS GSA are:

a. To promote knowledge and encourage critical research through the facilitation of departmental events that include but are not limited to the following:

i. Graduate research forums/exchanges
ii. Graduate student conferences

b. To prepare students for further work in their fields through the facilitation of events geared toward professionalization that include but are not limited to the following:

i. Public talks and forums (conference, lectures, etc.)
ii. Departmental town halls on topics including the academic job market, pedagogical training, and networking

c. To provide graduate students with a forum for identifying and addressing issues pertaining to graduate studies in the AHCS department

d. To act as a liaison between students and faculty within the department

e. To represent, support, and promote the cultural, political, and academic interests of members

f. To enhance and encourage the social lives of members by providing a safe and inclusive space for social activities
