Margaret Mackenzie and Samantha Nepton, both 2023 graduates of the Bachelor of Education program, are finalists for the McCall MacBain Scholarships, Canada’s largest leadership-based scholarships for master’s and professional studies.

Each finalist was chosen based on their character, community engagement, leadership potential, entrepreneurial spirit, academic strength, and intellectual curiosity.

Luke Spagnuolo has received The Gord Sleivert Young Investigator Award at the 2023 Sport Innovation Conference.

Luke received this award for his thesis project examining muscle fatigue in USports rowers which he presented at the conference in Halifax.

Members of 91˿Ƶ's leadership including the Faculty of Education’s Associate Dean of Academics, Dr. Sheryl Smith-Gilman, were hosted by the Mohawk community of Kahnawà:ke on November 22, 2023 for a day of learning and collaboration.

“What a fantastic experience it was to be part of the day of learning at the longhouse,” Dr. Smith-Gilman reported. Apart from her role as Associate Dean, Dr. Smith-Gilman’s academic career has largely involved Early Childhood Education and Indigenous Education.

Silar Gardy, PhD candidate in the the DKPE's Musculoskeletal Health & Physical Activity (MPAct) Laboratory (Supervisor: Dr. Jenna Gibbs), has received a research fellowship from the RSBO Network (Réseau de recherche en Santé Buccodentaire et Osseuse).

Silar's research aims to understand the role of nutrition and exercise in preventing bone fragility in endurance-trained individuals and athletes.

In October 2023, a team of Indigenous hockey players, advocates, researchers, and change makers gathered here at 91˿Ƶ in Tiohntià:ke/Montréal for a three-day Summit on Indigenous hockey. The Summit was organized by the Indigenous Hockey Research Network (IHRN) , and hosted by Mike Auksi and Davina McLeod: two Indigenous hockey players and emergent researchers committed to the promotion of a more just game.

On December 19, 2023, 91˿Ƶ announced it is launching a $3,000Canada Awardto offset tuition increases for Canadian undergraduate students from outside Quebec in certain disciplines. Approximately 80% of new Canadian students from outside Quebec coming to 91˿Ƶ will be eligible for the new award.

Professor Julie Côté, KPE and SASSI, was recently announced as a winner of the University of Wisconsin-Madison's School of Education 2023-24 Distinguished Alumni Awards. The award recognizes alumni across the 10 Departments of the School, which ranks among the top 3 Education schools in the United States, who have made outstanding contributions to their field.

The awards were given during a ceremony held in Madison on November 16th, during which Dr. Côté delivered a public presentation broadcasted live. Congratulations, Dr. Côté!
