Urban arts at James Lyng High: Melissa Proeitti, Jimmy Baptiste interviewed

Melissa Proeitti, PhD candidateÌýwith ourÌýDepartment of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE), and Jimmy Baptiste, former Artist-in-Residence with the Faculty of Education, spoke recently toÌýJournal MetroÌýregarding the urban arts school established at James Lyng High in Place St-Henri.

In 2015 DISEÌýembarked on a program to support the transformation ofÌýJames Lyng High into the first urban arts school in Canada, with the goals of engagingÌýstudents and improvingÌýsuccess rates.ÌýThe partnership grant, "Building partnership synergy between school, university, and community artists", is funded by theÌýSocial Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), led by DISE Prof.ÌýBronwen Low, andÌýsupported by DISE Profs.ÌýMindy Carter, Claudia Mitchell andÌýElizabeth Wood.Ìý
