EduWise

What was the motivation behind EduWise?

In CEGEP, I started to regularly tutor some students online during the pandemic. I realized, after discussing with some parents, that there was a fundamental gap in the education structure: we are focused on learning, but nobody teaches us how to learn. The education world is currently flooded with many challenges surrounding personalization and helping students develop science-backed strategies, and EduWise closes this pressing gap.

What are the challenges to build a start-up in EdTech?

Education has a lot of stakeholders, especially when you focus on pre-university level. Between teachers, parents, students, and the administration, there are multiple perspectives to a single issue. To get the most appropriate user feedback, we learned how to ensure the most efficient communication and get to the bottom of a problem.

How did the Dobson Centre play a role in EduWise as we know it today?

The Dobson Centre helped us become aware of what it takes to build a business. The Dobson also connected us to a network of professionals and experts that truly support entrepreneurs and are open to maintaining a relationship with our business beyond transactional. As a young startup this was extremely reassuring to know that we had a safety net of supporters. At EduWise, we teach how to learn, and Dobson taught us how to do business.
