How I Celebrate: Tet

Happy Tết - commonly known as Lunar New Year!

January 22nd, 2023, marks one of the most important celebrations in Vietnamese culture,ÌýTet.ÌýTet celebrates the beginning of a new year and the coming of spring time. It is based on the lunar calendar, which is why Chinese New Year is generally celebrated around the same time. This year,ÌýTet marks the beginning of the Year of the Cat in the Vietnamese zodiac calendar.

Here is a reflection from the 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Vietnamese Students' Association - MVSA on how one can celebrate this special day:

Tet celebrates the Lunar new year.ÌýTet is not just a holiday, it's the sentiments and preparation that come with it. It's the occasion for us to gather to celebrate the upcoming year and talk about what we have done in the year passing. I am celebrating with my family in Vietnam. My family'sÌýTet traditions include making Chung cake with my grandparents, decorating the house, havingÌýTet feasts, and visiting relatives' houses.Ìý
