Breastfeeding workshop a collaborative effort

Fifty-five students from the School of Human Nutrition and Dietetics attended a workshop on breastfeeding in the Satoko Shibata Clinical Nursing Laboratories at the Ingram School of Nursing (ISoN). Combining theoretical information with lab demonstrations of proper breastfeeding techniques, the workshop was organized in conjunction with Sandy Phillips, senior faculty lecturer in human nutrition, and delivered by ISoN faculty Rosetta Antonacci, Anne-Laurie Beaubrun, Maria Damian, Kimani Daniel, Catherine Leblanc and Irene Sarasua, with lab set-up provided by Luisa Demarte.

Topics covered included prenatal breastfeeding decision-making, basic principles of breastfeeding, proper position and latch, and how to provide support for mothers immediately after birth, in hospital and at home.

Four lab educators getting ready to welcome students from the 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ School of Human Nutrition and DieteticsISoN staff teach small groups of students  proper breastfeeding techniques.
