Winter Clinical Outreach - Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) : impact on clinical practice?
Dr. Thordadottir - Professor
Shortly after the publication of the CATALISE group proposing the adoption of the term Developmental Language Disorder to refer to a persistent language impairment starting in childhood, the OOAQ (Ordre des Orthophonistes et Audiologistes du Québec) recommended the use of this terminology to its members. This presentation aims to clarify what motivated this proposed change in terminology, compare the new term to the previous terms that it replaces (dysphasie, trouble primaire du langage, language impairment, specific/primary language impairment), discuss both the changes and the continuity associated with this new terminology, and highlight opportunities for increased awareness of DLD and improved services to children with DLD. A question and answer period will follow the presentation.
