Analyzing Ecological Conflicts through the Dataset of the Global Atlas of Environmental Justice

In this talk we will present some preliminary analysis of the 2700 geo-located cases of environmental justice protests documented in the Global Atlas of Environmental Justice (). The EJAtlas documents ecological conflicts, defined as mobilizations against perceived environmentally damaging projects or policies. It includes conflicts related to a wide range of polluting and extractive activities. Each case includes basic data and a description of the case, project details including area, investment, promoting actors, companies and international institutions involved, details on the conflict, including actors, forms of mobilization, intensity, start date, Impacts (environmental, health and social); outcomes and sources and references. We are interested in understanding determinants of conflict outcomes, such as accommodation (stopping projects) and state and corporate repression of the mobilizers.
