TT and Ranked CAS

The following applies to members of the academic staff appointed in accordance with the Regulations Relating to the Employment of Tenure Track and Tenured Academic Staff, and to ranked academic staff appointed in accordance with the Regulations Relating to the Employment of Contract Academic Staff.

Vacation is to be taken at a time when it does not interfere with teaching, and must be confirmed in advance with the academic unit head(s).

  • Academic staff employed continuously for one full reference year or more are entitled to vacation of one month.
  • Academic staff employed for less than one full reference year are entitled to vacation calculated at one day for each month worked, to a maximum of two consecutive weeks, or 10 vacation days.
  • For part-time staff, and those on reduced load, vacation entitlement is pro-rated.

Academic Librarian Staff

The following applies to members of the academic staff appointed in accordance with the Regulations Relating to the Employment of Librarian Staff.

Vacation is to be taken at a time when it does not interfere with the delivery of library and information services to the University community, and must receive prior approval of the supervisor. Supervisors must record all vacation days taken by librarian staff.

Unranked Academic Staff (Non-Unionized)

The following applies to members of the academic staff appointed in accordance with the Regulations Relating to the Employment of Contract Academic Staff.

Vacation shall be taken with the prior approval of the staff member’s immediate supervisor. Supervisors must keep written records of vacation days. Vacation for Academic Associates must be tracked in Workday.

  • Unranked Academic Staff employed continuously for less than one reference year are entitled to vacation of one day per month worked, to a maximum of two consecutive weeks, or 10 vacation days.
  • Unranked Academic Staff employed continuously for one full reference year, but less than three years, are entitled to vacation of three consecutive weeks, or 15 vacation days. You can also request an extra week without pay.
  • Unranked contract academic staff who have worked continuously for the University for three years are entitled to four weeks vacation, or 20 vacation days.
  • For part-time staff, and those on reduced load, vacation entitlement is pro-rated.

Unionized Academic Staff

Vacation entitlement is in accordance with the relevant collective agreement. Vacation shall be taken with the prior approval of the staff member's immediate supervisor. Supervisors must keep written records of vacation days. Where no collective agreement has been concluded, vacation entitlement is in accordance with the relevant employment contract.
