Message from Biochemistry Undergraduate Student Society (BUGS)

Ìý

Welcome to the Biochemistry Undergraduate program at 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ! This program is a rewarding life sciences program that looks at biological processes and systems at a molecular level, while teaching you hands-on lab skills that can be applied in research. Beyond academics, the biochemistry community has a lot going on!

Ìý

We are the Biochemistry Undergraduate Society (BUGS), a student-run organization representing all undergraduate students in Biochemistry and IHI, and we are dedicated to fostering an engaging and supportive student community. We communicate news and host both academic and social events for everyone to participate!

Ìý

Such as the Biochemistry Undergraduate Mentoring Program (BUMP), which pairs first year students with upper year mentors who can provide support/advice on what courses to take, how to get into research, how to get involved, etc. It’s always nice to talk to someone who’s been through it before! We also run a Note Taker’s Club (NTC) for required biochemistry courses that offers comprehensive note sets (at a cost), which serves as a great study tool. If you have great note-taking skills, look out for a job opening!

Ìý

The Biochemistry program makes it easy for undergraduate students to get involved in research, but BUGS makes it even easier with our Research Awareness Day (RAD) event. RAD showcases interesting research that is currently being done at 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ in Biochemistry and is a great way to talk to professors and learn how you can get involved!

Ìý

BUGS organizes many fun social events throughout the year, where you can meet and make friends in the program! The annual welcome back BBQ is a great time to catch up with everyone and start the school year on a good note! U1/2/3 events are a great way to have fun with others in your year, we plan trivia, movie nights, game nights, and much more! Cabin in the Woods is a fun weekend getaway planned annually by BUGS, open to all!

Ìý

Stay updated on everything BUGS by following us on Instagram @bugs_mcgill, or our website ! Every week, we send a listserv to your 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ email with announcements for upcoming events, updates and much more.

Don’t hesitate to reach out! Whether you’re looking for advice or looking to get involved with BUGS, we are here to help! You can reach any council member at bugs [at] susmcgill.ca.
