This year’s Dr. Ralph Silverstone Teaching Award has been awarded to Wendy Somerville. This award recognises the outstanding contributions to the development of the undergraduate teaching program and goes to a clinical or laboratory supervisor who teaches in the DMD program.
Ms Somerville holds a master’s degree in Anatomy and Cell Biology from 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ, has an extensive background in clinical microbiology, laboratory biosafety and respiratory disease research and has been a practising Infection Control Professional since 2003. Before joining the faculty at 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ dentistry, she was a member of the Infection Prevention and Control service at the 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Health Centre (MUHC) where she held the dossiers for diverse inpatient units as well as outpatient clinics and services including dentistry and medical device reprocessing. Since 2009, Ms Somerville has overseen the Faculty of Dentistry’s undergraduate and residency infection control teaching program, and currently serves both as an infection control training supervisor and on the committee charged with updating Infection Control Guidelines for the Order of Québec Dentists (ODQ).
