Awards

The below awards are issued to MDCM students by the  Office of Medical Learner Affairs on an annual basis. The value and number of awards can vary from year to year based on applications, eligibility and availability of funds. Students may apply directly for an award where applicable or, with their consent, through the recommendation of the UGME Wellness Consultants. 

NAME DESCRIPTION ³§·¡³¢·¡°ä°Õ±õ°¿±·Ìý ANNOUNCEMENT
Juliette Benarroch Caregiving Award Established in 2012 by Dr. Jacques Balayla, this award supports one or two students who are facing personal life challenges which could affect their completion of the MDCM program. 

The recipient(s) will be selected by the Office of Medical Learner Affairs on the recommendation of the UGME Wellness Consultants.

Maximum 2 recipients

To maintain confidentiality, recipients will be contacted directly by the Office of Medical Learner Affairs and only the number of awards issued will be announced in the MDCM-Info in May of each year.
Abdul K.I. and Zai Razack Memorial Medical Student Prize for Social Justice in Medicine Established in 2012 by Dr. Saleem Razack, a faculty member, for outstanding graduating medical students who have demonstrated a commitment to addressing the health care concerns of locally identified vulnerable and marginalized populations through either research or advocacy during medical school.  Applicants must be in their final year of studies and provide their CV and a one-page letter outlining their commitment to addressing the healthcare concerns of locally identified vulnerable and marginalized populations through either research or advocacy during medical school. Details and application deadline will be announced in the Info-MDCM during the winter semester. Recipient(s) to be announced in the Info-MDCM in May of each year.
Class of Medicine 1992 Resilience Award Established by the Class of Medicine 1992 after their 25th reunion in 2018, this award intends to support one or more medical students in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences who, in the face of significant acute illness, chronic illness, and/or stresses caused by life circumstances (including, for example, learning disabilities, pregnancy, or health issues of a family member), demonstrate resilience and a continued commitment to their studies.  The recipient(s) will be selected by the Office of Medical Learner Affairs on the recommendation of the UGME Wellness Consultants. This award may be given throughout the year, as the need arises from students. To maintain confidentiality, recipients will be contacted directly by the Office of Medical Learner Affairs.
Ramani Balendra Resilience Award Established in 2017 by the Balendra Family in memory of Ramani Balendra, the Ramani Balendra Resilience Award supports MDCM students and/or residents in the Faculty of Medicine who, in the face chronic illness (affecting either themselves or a family member, including, sibling, spouse, child, parent or grandparent), demonstrate resilience and a continued commitment to their studies and/or social activism.

The recipient(s) will be selected by the Office of Medical Learner Affairs on the recommendation of the UGME Wellness Consultants.
