Shaping the Future of Healthcare: Meet the Distinguished Researcher Dr. Carmen Mueller
Dr. Mueller’s research program comprises two main focuses: surgical education and surgical outcomes. Current and previous projects include determining the needs, barriers to and outcomes of peer coaching for continuous skills improvement among surgeons in practice, and evaluating surgical techniques, enhance recovery program implementation, and quality improvement projects in the enhancement of patient outcomes after benign and malignant upper gastrointestinal surgery. Dr. Mueller has supervised numerous trainees including Master’s and PhD students, as well as fellows, residents and medical students. She has published >60 peer reviewed primary research papers, coauthored numerous book chapters and regularly invited to speak as an expert in her field and national and international conferences and is the recipient of the highly competitive Fonds de recherche du Quebec - sante (FRQS) clinician scientist award in 2021.

Catalysts of Change: Dr. Trafford Crump's Transformative Research
Dr. Trafford Crump holds the Jarislowsky Foundation Chair in Thoracic Surgery. He is a health services researcher with a focus on surgery and surgical oncology. He leads a research program focused on improving patient-centeredness and the value of surgical care. Through this program, he has developed an expertise in the collection, analyses, and interpretations of patient-reported end points, including treatment preferences, outcomes, and experiences.
Dr. Crump trained at the Centre for Health Services and Policy Research at the University of British Columbia and received a Ph.D. in the evaluative clinical sciences from Dartmouth College.
