Counsellor Training Program

91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ

The Student Wellness Hub offers opportunities for graduate-level clinical training.

Graduate students registered in counselling psychology, clinical psychology, creative therapies, social work or a similar field are encouraged to apply. Please see the details and deadline below.

About

The internship program follows the scientist-practitioner model, as exemplified by the use of progress monitoring instruments. 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ prioritizes the integration of training and research in the delivery of effective psychological services.

The program encourages professional development by offering weekly individual and group supervision, seminars, continuing education and service trainings with other Hub professionals. Trainees are encouraged and mentored in the process of integrating current theoretical and empirical research into their treatment conceptualization, planning, and implementation and will learn to apply their skills within a multicultural and ethical service delivery environment.

Our goal is to train interns in a variety of clinical domains. The majority of interns direct client hours will be accrued through individual counselling. Interns may also gain experience with group psychotherapy, workshops delivery, case consultation, live case shadowing and crisis intervention.

Interns have the opportunity to work with students with a range of presenting concerns including but not limited to, anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, substance use, and relationship and developmental issues. Interns have the opportunity to partake in campus outreach activities and interactions with the broader student population. Interns can expect to work with a diverse clientele reflective of the 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ community.

Supervision

We strive to provide a safe and supportive environment for our trainees.

The Hub offers various supervision and consultation opportunities each week, including:

  • Individual Supervision
  • Staff meetings and occasional Hub interdisciplinary case conferencing
  • Opportunity to shadow various counsellors in Live Session (assessment only)
  • Professional Development Training

All sessions with clients are recorded. Supervisors review audio/video tapes of supervisee’s sessions which allows for very close monitoring of their skills development and client care.

Components & Commitment

The training program is a part-time program beginning at the end of August and continuing to the end of the following April. Alternative arrangements may be considered.

An orientation period and case shadowing is provided and required for all new interns beginning the last week of August.

Interns are expected to participate in staff meetings and professional development trainings as well as to complete readings and some professional development activities on their own time as part of the training program throughout the year.
