Winning big to fight brain cancer

“I feel as though I need to give back to express my gratitude and appreciation for the group at the Montreal Neurological Institute."

The winners of a raffle draw to raise money for brain cancer research have been announced on June 19. Jean-Pierre Mercille won the first prize, a Rolex watch valued at $10,000. The second prize went to Salvatore Iannattone, a flight credit worth $3,000. Third prize was a MacBook and accessories, worth $2,000, which went to Salvatore Losciuto. In all the raffle raised $188,001, money which will go to develop new therapies for brain cancer patients.

The raffle was organized by Josie Arcobelli, a brain tumor patient of The Neuro. Josie learned she had a meningioma in 2013 and was treated by Dr. Kevin Petrecca and Dr. Bassam Abdulkarim. While her tumor still exists, it has been greatly reduced by the treatment. Josie has since become a passionate ambassador and fundraiser for The Neuro.

“I feel as though I need to give back to express my gratitude and appreciation for the group at the Montreal Neurological Institute,” she says. “Through this experience I have learned how important it is to have a strong, loving team that supports, guides, and paves the way for you even on the rainiest of days. My story here isn’t the important one, but that there are many more individuals, just like myself, who will inopportunely face these difficult situations. We all have the power to be someone’s ray of light and together we can be the team that helps so many out there!”

The Neuro’s next brain cancer fundraiser, , will be taking place Oct. 18, 2017 Le Salon Richmond.
