A major goal of Dr Velly's research is to elucidate strategies to promote the prevention and the treatment of acute and chronic pain. More specifically, her current research projects involve: 1) Identifying the risk and prognostic factors related to acute and chronic pain; 2) Determining the prognostic factors related to unsuccessful pain treatment; 3) Assessing the prevalence of comorbid pain conditions; 4) Determining the relationship between chronic pain and comorbid conditions; and 5) Evaluating the best strategies for the management of acute and chronic pain. This program has been a multidisciplinary effort including anesthetists, dentists, physicians, epidemiologists, statisticians, neurological scientists and geneticists from the Lady Davis Institute, Jewish General Hospital and from the School of Dentistry at University of Minneapolis. In addition, Dr Velly is also actively engaged in translation research at Lady Davis Institute of the Jewish General Hospital and at University of Minnesota. The goal of these projects is to identify biomarkers related to pain and comorbid conditions. She is also collaborating with researchers in Faculties of Dentistry in France and UK. Dr Velly research team has published a series of papers on those topics.

Ana Miriam Velly is an Assistant Professor with theFaculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health SciencesÌýat 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ and Research Associate with the School of Dentistry at the University of Minnesota. She is also Director of the Registry for NIH/ NIDCR's Temporomandibular Joint Implant Registry and Repository and past president of the Neurosciences group of the International Association of Dental Research. She is a dentist with a MS in Neurologic Science, PhD in public health with orientation in epidemiology, from the Universit� de Montr�al and with a Post-doctoral training in epidemiology on the Department of Epidemiology at 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ
